Huw’s research focuses on the development and export of Chinese artificial intelligence governance initiatives. He is interested in exploring the mechanisms being used, their efficacy, and the potential ethical impacts.

Prior to starting his DPhil, Huw worked for several years in the field of AI policy for, amongst others, the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, the UK government’s Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation, and the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Huw holds a BA in Politics from Durham University, an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the University of Oxford, and an MPhil in Chinese Philosophy from the Yenching Academy of Peking University. Huw’s research has been published in several leading academic publications including: Science and Engineering Ethics, The Information Society, Internet Policy Review, and AI & Society.
