This training session is delivered by Dr Sabina Strachan of how2glu for the GUDTP and OOC DTP.
It is open to all Social Sciences graduate students of the three GUDTP universities.
In this graphically-facilitated participative online workshop we will look at a range of different academic and professional environments, their component parts, and how to identify these characteristics in different settings such as academic institutional visits, placements, partnerships and post-PhD career sectors. We will explore ways you can identify and align your own values with different settings and how you can navigate different contexts and cultures.
Your facilitator is an experienced consultant and manager who supports effective collaboration, worked with universities in the UK and overseas, put together job descriptions and recruited postgraduate candidates, coached PhD researchers in their job searches, analysed skill requirements for different sectors, developed internship programmes, analysed organisational culture, and made recommendations for effective cultural leadership. She will bring appropriate insights from these settings into the workshop to help you navigate a range of environments.
We will work through glucard™ tools that will help you understand different facets of academic and professional culture such as behaviours, norms and assumptions, proportionate ways to understand environments and contexts when assessing different opportunities, how to align choices with your own values, and ways to understand the intangible aspects of different environments and settings.
Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and once places are full, we will maintain a waiting list.
Please only register if you are certain of your availability and commitment to attend.
