My research focuses on in-class support for multilingual pupils in UK schools. Specifically, I am collaborating with Bilingual Learning Assistants in Portsmouth to look closely at their work and the relationships they have with class teachers and multilingual children in their schools. My work uses mixed methods, including some classroom-based quantitative enquiry into vocabulary acquisition, where target vocabulary in English is enhanced with pupils' home languages.
I have a teaching background, with 12+ years of experience as a class teacher, EAL specialist and Teaching Assistant in the UK, China, Brazil and Italy.
My undergraduate degree, BA in Jurisprudence, and my MSc in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching were both from the University of Oxford. My PGCE (Primary) is from the Institute of Education, London, and I have a PGDip in French from the University of Dundee.
