Placement with Ridgeway Information

On Nuclear Non-Proliferation & International Security

Who We Are

Ridgeway Information is a London-based research & analysis company, supporting a range of leading UK and international organisations in the public, private and third sectors. Ridgeway is a spin out company from King’s College London’s School of Social Sciences Policy Institute, having spun out in 2017.  We carry out policy, academic and commercial research mainly in four areas: (1) non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD); (2) international development; (3) due diligence; and (4) open-source intelligence (OSINT).

The Placement Project

Ridgeway is seeking an engaged, driven researcher to assist our team in conducting work on nuclear non-proliferation and international security. This work is done in support of the UK government and international clients, including the United Nations (UN). In addition to conducting open-source research, candidates may also be required to present their research findings to clients, assist in the development of research methodologies, and collaborate with different teams/colleagues on other day-to-day business operations.

Training & Support

As part of the role, Ridgeway Information will provide training on the nuclear fuel cycle and open-source research. In addition, the successful candidate will have allocated time (approximately 2-3 hours per week) to observe and gain hands-on experience of different facets of SME operational management, with the support of a line manager and a mentor. Possible weekly enrichment sessions include: How to run a small business (with the CEO), meeting the trustees of the FAROS Foundation, Ridgeway's sister charitable company, how to set-up a business in the EU, the life cycle of a large research project, meetings with Ridgeway's UN and UK government clients, and an introduction to BBC Monitoring.

Placement Practicalities

Ridgeway envisions a 3-month, full-time time role, with the successful candidate attending the London office at least one day a week. We would be happy to discuss part-time and flexible working arrangements, and cover the cost of reasonable travel to enable in-person attendance.

The Perfect Match

We are happy to accept expressions of interest from a wide-range of academic backgrounds. We particularly value methodological training, whether qualitative or quantitative.  Language skills and a demonstrated interest in international relations, area studies, or foreign policy will be an advantage.
