The focus of my current research is on undergraduates, debt and employability—by looking at undergraduates in universities in both Scotland and England, using both quantitative and qualitative techniques, I will explore the extent to which fee-paying and debt-aversion influence educational and vocational choices and attitudes; specifically, learning and employability attitudes. In particular, it seeks to highlight the ways in which these issues are affected by SES and type of university. My research interests are higher education, the labour market, learner identity and social exclusion.
Prior to commencing my DPhil, I obtained an MPhil in Psychology and Education from Cambridge University, and an MA in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Edinburgh. I have also worked in literary publishing and in journalism.
