Experimental Psychology (2017 cohort)
My DPhil/PhD focuses on healthcare in the home. Increasingly complex healthcare tasks are being carried out by patients and their relatives in the home. Two common examples are artificial feeding and mechanical ventilation. I am interested in the learning journeys of family carers who provide such complex care, and seek to identify how best to train and prepare people for these demanding tasks. Psychological theories of skill acquisition and decision-making will inform my research.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Downing College, Cambridge. Following this I taught Mathematics in a challenging secondary school in the West Midlands before completing an MSc in Psychology at the University of Leiden. In July 2015 I started working as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Oxford and began my DPhil in October 2017.
